The Gerald F. Berlin Prize is awarded for creative writing, prose or poetry, written by UMass medical students,residents, fellows, graduate students, and nursing students in programs based at UMass Medical School, Berkshire Medical Center, and Worcester Medical Center/St. Vincent’s.
Grand prize is $100, a reading at an Awards Ceremony in AMP III (S6 – 102) on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 (12:00-1:30 PM), and publication in Worcester Medicine, The Berkshire Medical Journal, and Streams of Consciousness. The second and third prize winners will also have their work published in Streams of Consciousness.
Winners of the top three prizes and honorable mention will also have the opportunity to read excerpts from their work at the Award Ceremony.
Prose (short fiction or reflective essays):
Be Sure to Disguise Any Patient Details to Protect Confidentiality.
Be Sure to number your pages and include a title for your piece.
NO SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED: Please do not submit your work for this award if you have already submitted your poem/essay/story for consideration for another award or publication.
